Mwaliko - Digital Invitations & Event Registration

AutomationMobile AppFintech

What to expect

  • Guests can self-register through a shareable link - no organizer has to enter them by hand
  • Mobile money payments are matched to guests automatically via a webhook, so a card or ticket can be issued the moment payment lands
  • Invitations and reminders are sent automatically by WhatsApp/SMS the moment a guest qualifies
  • One system adapts to how the event actually works - contribution tiers, free RSVP, paid tickets, or invite-only - instead of forcing every event into the same model

The problem

Organizing an event in Tanzania; a wedding, a conference, a graduation usually means running guest lists and payments by hand: tracking who's confirmed, who's paid, what they're owed, and manually sending invitations one by one. Different events also work differently. A wedding might collect contributions toward the celebration; a conference sells tickets; a party is just a free RSVP. Forcing all of these through one rigid process is what makes it tedious, and doing it manually is what makes it error-prone.

What we're building

Mwaliko is a mobile app (iOS, Android, and web, built with Expo/React Native and Supabase) that runs the guest lifecycle end-to-end, adapting to the kind of event it is:

  • Event types with sensible defaults - organizers pick from wedding, conference, party, graduation, ceremony, or other, and the event's invitation model, guest terminology ("Guests" vs. "Attendees"), and invitation template default sensibly for that type.
  • Four invitation models, one system:
    • Contribution tiers - guests give toward the event and automatically earn a single or double invitation card once they cross a threshold.
    • Free self-registration - guests register themselves through a public link and get their invitation immediately.
    • Paid tickets - self-registration collects the guest's details and returns payment instructions; the ticket is released once payment is confirmed.
    • Invite-only - the organizer stays in control of who's added.
  • Public self-registration - each event can get a shareable public link where guests register themselves, without needing organizer login or manual entry.
  • Automatic mobile money matching - a webhook receives mobile money payment callbacks, matches the paying phone number to a guest (and, when set, to the event's own collection number to avoid cross-event mix-ups), and records the payment automatically - duplicate callbacks are safely ignored.
  • Automatic invitation delivery - the moment a guest qualifies (crosses a contribution threshold, completes free registration, or pays for a ticket), their invitation card or reminder goes out over WhatsApp/SMS via Africa's Talking, with no manual step in between.

Status

Mwaliko is in active development and not yet publicly released. It will be launched here once available.
